Bigger crane

Bigger crane

For panel houses we usually take a 10 ton-meter crane, that is: a crane that can lift one tonne over a 10 meter distance. Or 500 kilo’s over a 20 meter distance. For the average house with 6-meter panels that is just enough to lift panels from a truck, swing around and hoist the panel on the foundation. For an average house we need a crane for about three weeks.

But our engineers decided it was time to speed up the assembly process. Build fewer but bigger, heavier panels in the factory, and assemble full 12 meter walls in one go. Good idea, except that we can not lift such panels with our usual 10 ton-meter cranes.

Time to call the guys with the big cranes: T. Pater groep. They showed up with a mobile 70 tonne crane and boy does this go fast. Our previous three weeks has been reduced to … one week.
